Edward R. Roybal Centers
The Edward R. Roybal Centers for Translational Research in the Behavioral and Social Sciences of Aging were authorized by Congress in 1993 for funding by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health. The program is named for the Chair of the former House Select Committee on Aging, Edward R. Roybal. Today, the NIA’s Division of Behavioral and Social Research currently supports 13 Roybal Centers, including the Rochester Roybal Center for Social Ties & Aging Research.
The mission of the Roybal Centers program is to support translation and integration of basic behavioral and social research findings into interventions to improve the lives of older people, and the capacity of institutions to adapt to societal aging.
